GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS In British Columbia, prescribed Provincial Graduation Requirements provide for mastery of a common core of learning as well as the opportunity for significant student choice. To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 80 credits in courses numbered 10, 11 and 12. REQUIRED COURSES (52 Credits)
a Language Arts 10 (4 credits); includes a Provincial Exam English 10 or English 10 First Peoples
a Language Arts 11 (4 credits) English 11, English 11 First Peoples or Communications 11
a Language Arts 12 (4 credits); includes a Provincial Exam English 12, English 12 First Peoples or Communications 12
Social Studies 10 (4 credits)
Social Studies 11, Civic Studies 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12 (4 credits)
a Grade 10 Mathematics course (4 credits)
a Grade 11 or 12 Mathematics course (4 credits)
Science 10 (4 credits)
a Grade 11 or 12 Science course (4 credits)
Physical Education 10 (4 credits)
Planning 10 (4 credits); recommended to be taken in Grade 11
Fine Arts and/or Applied Skills 10, 11 or 12 course (4 credits) •
Graduation Transition Plan (GTP) includes documentation of 150 minutes/week of moderate to vigorous physical activity (4 credits)
Daily Physical Activity (DPA) – Grade 9-11 students to document completion of 150 minutes/week moderate to vigorous physical activity.
ELECTIVE COURSES (28 Credits minimum) See an extensive list of the Elective Courses throughout this Course Handbook. Notes: An unlimited number of credits from Board Authority Authorized (BAA) or post secondary courses may count towards graduation.
A minimum of 16 credits from either ministry or Board Authority Authorized or post secondary courses are required at the Grade 12 level (not including the GTP).
Five Graduation Program Exams in Grades 10-12 are required for graduation, including a Grade 12 Language Arts exam.
